Downtown Countdown is Bangor’s Community New Year’s Eve Celebration!

It is presented annually by the Downtown Bangor Partnership. The event is free and open to the community to attend.

There is live music, performances, art, food vendors and various offerings for all ages. Many family friendly events are offered as well.

Downtown Countdown to 2014 will take place Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in various venues and outdoors in Downtown Bangor. Featuring dozens of activities and entertainment options from 7pm to Midnight; you choose the places to celebrate with live music, dancing, family fun, street performances and the ball drop!

There is live music, art displays, food vendors and various offerings for all ages. Many family friendly events are offered as well. For a full list please check out our EVENTS PAGE.

The Trolley

Emera_webThe Downtown Countdown Trolley will run from 7PM to 1AM on New Year’s Eve in Downtown Bangor. The Trolley is free for anyone to ride!

The Trolley will run on a loop from Main Street to Harlow Street, Franklin Street and Columbia. It stops near DTCD Venues and at West Market Square where the Street Party & Ball Drop take place.

6:00PM

New Year’s Eve Activities at the Bangor Public Library (6:00-8:00PM)

There will be board games, a magician, the always popular planetarium show is back (tickets needed), and more! Costumes are encouraged! Contact the BPL for details!

7:00PM

The Street Party | West Market Square (7:00 – Midnight)

Music Performers, Entertainment, Fire Spinners, Mechanical Bull Rides, Mr. & Mrs. Paul Bunyan Competition & More!

Get Decked out at UMMA! | University of Maine Museum of Art ( 7:00 – 9:00PM)

Stop by the Museum to make a crown or tiara to wear during the Downtown Bangor’s New Year’s Eve festivities. All of the sparkling supplies will be provided for FREE! Also, take this opportunity to view the current exhibitions before they close in January!

Maximum Blue | The Rock & Art Shop (Playing 2 sets, 7-8PM and 9-10PM)

Maximum Blue is a Bangor-based string-band featuring 16 year old fiddler Max Silverstein with Jeff Silverstein on guitar and Nancy Merrill on bass. Expect to hear traditional and energetic bluegrass, old-time and swing music. This is the 6th year Maximum Blue has participated in the DTCD. The band will have available their recently released and first professionally recorded CD, Grounded.

BDN Maine NYE Gala | Bangor Public Library (8:00PM – 1:00AM)

This year, BDN Maine is honored to be throwing Bangor’s first New Year’s Eve Gala.  Held at the historic Bangor Public Library, this upscale, formal affair will feature a variety of drinks, hors d’oeuvres, a midnight champagne toast, & live music from The Waiters – a band that delivers a tight, polished, and energetic sound, as well as members of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra.

Timber Tina Lumberjack Show | Center Street

Experience Timber Tina perform her trade live! There will be a chainsaw chair carving and ax throwing with the Mr and Mrs Paul Bunyan Contestants!

Singing in the closest of harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision, the “Plaids” are a guaranteed smash, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they’re not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the 1950′s.
