Why are you competing?

Growing up in the Bangor area, Paul Bunyan was an icon of my childhood. As a teenager I fell in love with the outdoors, thanks to the Outdoor Education program at Brewer High School. As an adult I’ve become pretty handy with a chainsaw and small construction projects. I wasn’t delivered by five storks, but the word on the street is at 9 lbs., I was the biggest baby in the EMMC nursery. My lovely family gave me a strong moral compass, which led to my professions as a high school guidance counselor and Bangor’s Ladybouncer at Paddy Murphy’s. My instant reaction to seeing this contest was “I was meant for this.” I can chop wood with an ax, my twitter handle is HolBunyan, and I’d like to think my heart is as big as Paul’s; I hope you will consider me for Bangor’s first Mrs. Paul Bunyan!

Why are you competing?

Mrs Paul Bunyan should wear flannel on a regular basis, feed her animals before she eats breakfast, keep a gallon of Maine maple syrup at the ready and be able to pick at an old guitar with the boys. That’s me. Plus, our music fans will love this.

Why are you competing?

I’m hairy, from Maine and I think I tell a pretty good story. All things I think people would appreciate in a Paul Bunyan. Oh and I’m a sorta tall, that necessary effect, ya know?

Why are you competing?

I have deep roots in Bangor. My great-grandfather worked for Snow & Nealley and my maternal grandparents grew up in E Plantation. My wardrobe consists of a large collection of flannel, including gems purchased in the logging hubs of Duluth, Seattle and “the other” Portland.

I maintain an intense beard.

Why are you competing?

I am Paul Bunyan of Bangor I have already walked this town hanging in front of our great local businesses with friends supporting this great state, downtown has Ben a great place for me, and taking pictures with all the locals and out of staters has Ben a great and fun experience. And I’m proud to be a mainah.. And would be proud to be truly named bangor’s Paul Bunyan, which I have played for years… I love you all.

I live in the wilderness (practically), I love pancakes and I keep animals. I’m also a professional performing and recording musician. And my wife entered.

Well first of all my name is Paul. I’ve lived in the Bangor/ Orono area almost my entire life. I love flannel.

Contestants will participate in a talent show, flannel fashion show, mechanical bull riding, and flapjack eating competition. The introductions, events, and crowning will be held at the Main Stage in West Market Square with the flapjack eating competition taking place at Bagel Central.

The competition is open to the public. Anyone above the age of 18 is encouraged to submit applications and photo starting December 2nd, 2012 on the Downtown Countdown website (www.countdownbangor.com). Ten female and ten male contestants will be selected on December 15th. The public will vote online via the Downtown Countdown website from December 16 until 22nd to determine the final ten contestants (5 female, 5 male). Final contestants will be announced on Dec 23rd. Contest rules, regulations and details may be found at www.countdownbangor.com.

The event will take place in Downtown Bangor on the evening of December 31st. We are seeking vendors in the following categories from 5:00 P.M. to11:00 P.M. on the 31st:

• Artists, Craft & Retail Vendors

Vending at Bangor’s Downtown Countdown is a great opportunity for any business looking to gain exposure and reach new customers. All of our vendors will be listed on the event’s website with a link to their own website. Vendors will also be listed in our Official Vendor Guide. Along with those great marketing opportunities, participating in our event will give you access to thousands of new customers over the course of just one evening.
